Betty Price’s Digital Story

A Torfaen at War Digital Story

 Betty Price’s Digital Story Transcript

I wasn’t born until the year after the war so I was too little to remember much of what they used to talk about. They used to say how hard it was during the war. It was the same then with rations and it was hard going to keep the family going. My father was a miner and of course they were as important as soldiers. It was hard going, long hours. He used to say very often they didn’t see daylight all week. It’d be dark when they went and dark when they came home. Fair play to him he was cheerful. He could play the piano and we’d be singing. He didn’t need music. If he heard a song he could sit down and play it. He liked doing it. I expect he was glad he didn’t have to go to war.
