This is a generic title covering the vast majority of digital storytelling projects delivered by Caerphilly County Borough’s Arts Development service. Funding from the Arts Council of Wales in 2004 enabled the 3-year appointment of an Artist-in-Residence, Matt White, the core member of the Breaking Barriers team. The films have been created in partnership with a wide range of organisations, covering many different themes. This section also includes films devised during our “Training for Trainers” courses – an important strand of our work that has spread digital storytelling practice across Wales and beyond.

Communities @ One is a Welsh Assembly initiative operating throughout Communities First areas across Wales to encourage digital inclusion. In Caerphilly County Borough, the Breaking Barriers team uses digital storytelling as the means of helping people get to grips with – and even enjoy – new technology. Digital Storytelling artists Diego Vidart, Ffion Rhys and Matt White have been working alongside Project Co-ordinator, Shaun Featherstone to help local communities learn the necessary skills and to set up their own sustainable projects.

These digital stories were made as part of an intergenerational project where young people worked with older people to tell their stories. Originally funded via CyMal in 2005, the project has continued as a collaboration between Caerphilly County Borough’s Library, Youth, Museums and Arts services. This strand of work has been led by new media artist, Tracy Pallant with assistance from Katrina Kirkwood and other members of the team working on the Breaking Barriers project.
