What is Digital Storytelling?
Digital Storytelling is an exciting new art form that combines one of the oldest skills - the art of storytelling - with the imaginative use of new technology. Everyone has a story to tell - a memory, an event or experience that holds a personal or local significance. In Digital Storytelling projects, members of the community are helped to create short films (on computers) about the things that are important to them in their lives. The project combines creative writing, digital photography, video capture, film editing and the creation of soundtracks. The end result offers a snapshot into someone else's viewpoint. The films are moving, interesting, often very entertaining, and as diverse as the people who have created them.

Where do the pictures come from?
Participants can provide their own images to accompany their stories - these can be old photographs, snippets of video-tape or any other material that can be digitally captured and scanned. Alternatively we can help to create new images to illustrate a story. With a bit of imagination and a digital camera, almost anything is possible!

How does it work?
The films are put together using a computer with specialist video editing software. This brings the images and the voice over-track together to make a short film - about two minutes long. All the necessary equipment is provided.
